Hard surface flooring is a great investment, but with so many more options than ever before, the best choice for your home isn’t as clear cut as it used to be. Add in a variety of features (many of which have also never been available before), and finding the right choice really does become a complicated process.
Fortunately, we’re here to fix that.
In the video above, Bob of Bob & Pete’s Floors shares expert insights that will help simplify the process of choosing the right hard surface flooring. He describes each topic in simple terms and covers several in just over two minutes. Below, we’ll highlight some of the most important takeaways from the video.
Wear Layer
The wear layer is one of the most important considerations for hard surface flooring. It’s not something that you can actually see, so it’s important to check the specs before choosing your flooring. This will determine the floor’s scratch resistance, durability and ease of cleaning. Since the wear layer is not visible on the flooring, we offer a flip-book style tool in-store that you can use to both see and feel various wear layers. As expected, thicker is better.
Luxury Vinyl
In recent years, luxury vinyl has quickly soared to become one of the most popular flooring choices. As a plank, it is unique in that each piece is both flexible and durable. In other words, it can be installed over flooring that isn’t perfectly flat. Installation is easy as it can be glued or even clicked down (glue is more reliable as it’s easier to repair and unaffected by sunlight). It’s completely waterproof, making a great choice for any room in the home. Even better, it’s among the most affordable hard surface options.
Enhanced Vinyl Plank
While luxury vinyl is great in itself, luxury vinyl plan offers even greater durability and easier installation. It’s not always quite as versatile as luxury vinyl (since it requires a completely flat surface), but it is a far more viable choice for 3 seasons rooms as it’s far less likely to be impacted by Ohio’s seasonal changes.
Installation
Hard surface flooring installation is much easier than it used to be, but there are still differences between each selection (sometimes significant differences). Many modern hard surface options can be installed over existing flooring, but that won’t always be the case (and it depends on the floor that’s already there). Whether or not your current floor is suitable for new installation should be determined by an expert – and we have a team of them! This does mean that each installation require a custom plan. Fortunately, a true professional will keep you informed each step of the way – and if a complete replacement is needed, we’ll ensure you understand why.
