There are many reasons that carpet flooring tends to get overlooked – it’s easy to stain, harder to clean and negatively impacts your home’s air. The problem is that most of the assertions remain strong even after modern innovations in carpet have virtually eliminated them. Carpet flooring has benefited from many innovations in recent years, and they’re available in more styles than ever before. Here’s a quick look at a few

1. Waterproof

If you’re considering waterproof flooring, carpet probably isn’t the first choice that came to mind. That’s because it’s traditionally more difficult to clean spills – and failure to do so properly could often (among other things) lead to mold growth. However, many stylish carpet lines have made this a thing of the past. Modern selections using such technologies as Lifeguard backing keep liquids sitting on top of the carpet’s surface, preventing them from soaking through. Even better, carpet fiber using technologies like R2X are designed to repel spills and prevent soaking.

Needless to say, wiping spills from your carpet has never been easier.

2. Air Quality

Carpet is often blamed for poor home air quality. However, the opposite is actually true – those fibers can actually help clean your home’s air! Eventually, gravity causes dust and allergens to settle. When this happens over carpet flooring, those particles become trapped within the fibers. As long as your carpet is vacuumed once per week, those particles are removed before they have a chance to build up and reenter the air. Just be sure to use a vacuum with a HEPA filter.

3. Carpet Enhances Insulation

For all the attention we give to open windows and half closed doors, we hardly consider our floor’s impact on utility costs. However, caret is actually known to improve a room’s insulation level. This is especially true during colder months, though it’s fair to note that carpet does NOT have the opposite effect during warm seasons. It’s also worth considering the cushion used, as the right cushioning can help improve energy savings. As an added bonus, the right cushioning can also improve your carpet’s comfort level, which brings us to our next point…

4. It’s More Comfortable Than Ever

Granted, this can be a matter of personal preference (and may depend upon having something to lean back on). Even so, many new lines of carpet feature soft, even plush, padding just underneath the backing (where they’re protected from moisture). So while you may have a few extra chairs for guests, they just might prefer sitting on the floor.

5. Carpet Helps Reduce Noise

Speaking of your carpet’s padding, it can also help reduce noise by absorbing sounds from steps, drops and even home theater systems. This is especially useful for a multi-level home or building.

6. It’s Recyclable

Although carpet is more durable than ever, there may still come a time when your home’s style is due for a refresh. When this happens, it’s good to know that many modern carpet selections can now be recycled. As such, it does its role in reducing waste and environmental impact.
